RespiteSunhaven provides Children's Respite and Weekend Farm Stay at Lower Beechmont.
Out of the October 2009 workshop for parents and teachers was initiated a new Respite Service working out of Anthroposophy.
Eurythmy was presented by Patries Orange and upon observing, prepared the participants to receive the rest of the days unique qualities.
After a wholesome lunch Sandra Frain told a Grimm's story, "Sweet Porridge".
This was directly followed by Susanne Ramcke-Wyes Art Therapy session.
A presentation of handwork was introduced by Nansi Finch.
The day was brought to a close by an inspired and invigorating discussion, which helped to evaluate the needs of disabled children and their families and teachers.
After about one year of preparation Sunhaven respite services commenced in July 2010 in the farm-house at Lower Beechmont 17km west of Nerang in a beautiful rural setting.
Families are offered places for children aged 3 to 17 in age appropriate groups of three to five. Stays are Friday night to Sunday afternoon on a rotational and/or casual basis.
In addition to the qualified carers, experienced facilitators and therapists working from Rudolf Steiner's indications will be engaged to create an activity centre. Activities will range from music, pottery, storytelling, bread making, singing, eurythmy, beeswax modelling, weaving, drawing, gardening and watercolour painting. Television, video games and computers will not be available. Excursions to the farm, walking and outdoor activities will be available where appropriate. Parents are encouraged to offer their time to be involved.
